Ayurveda ai ● yoor vey ● duh

[Sanskrit] Ayus - life; Veda - knowledge

Known as the world’s oldest health system, Ayurveda is a stream of knowledge and practice with an approximate track record of 15,000 years (intact oral tradition followed by written tradition beginning ~6,000 years ago). This brilliant system clearly articulates the purpose of human life, the definition of health, as well as how to preserve it; and details a multidimensional understanding of the origin of imbalance/disease as well as how to manage or remove it. Ayurveda describes many important concepts that are just now emerging in Western medicine, including immunity, circadian medicine, individualized approach to nutrition, and the importance of addressing both mind and body when it comes to healing. At the core of this vast body of knowledge is the principle of the interconnectedness of all life. Healing is a journey of reconnection. Whether at the cellular level, deep within our own mind, or in the realm of interpersonal relationship, connection serves life; isolation is destructive. Through the application of Ayurvedic principles, we can create well-being, peace, harmony, and quality of life for ourselves, our loved ones, our community, and our world.

Ayurvedic Health Counseling is an investment in preserving and enhancing your well-being on every level.

The process begins with a detailed Ayurvedic Health Assessment which provides a picture of your current state. Health is dynamic. Ayurveda is a common-sense science that harnesses the qualities of Nature and our daily activities to cultivate balance as we go through changes. Using the assessment as a guideline, we work together to develop a totally individualized Wellness Action Plan that offers you an empowering experience of progressive education grounded in practice and experimentation. Ayurvedic Health Counseling can be combined with Yoga Therapy (see below) to enhance your results, drawing on various methods of bodywork as well as tools and techniques from the Yoga tradition to complement your diet and lifestyle protocol.

As your Ayurvedic Health Counselor, I serve as your accountability partner. I am here to support you in understanding yourself, prioritizing the optimization of your well-being, and deliberately cultivating it through daily activities. After the initial consultation and assessment, we will establish regular meetings in support of your action plan. Depending on your desired outcomes, follow-up sessions can be in-person, via phone, or video conference, and may be scheduled every 1 - 3 weeks or up to 6 weeks after the first meeting. Follow-up meetings are not required, but are recommended to get the most value from the consultation.

The tools we use are proven. The practice takes us beyond conceptual understanding into experientially evidenced knowing. The work is a process we co-create, focused on revealing the root of our suffering, recognizing our true nature, removing the blocks to our innate health, strength, peace, and contentment. We discover that we can harness the changing experiences and challenges of life toward ever-deepening levels of integration.

Yoga Therapy: Integration, Applied to you

Yoga

[Sanskrit] from the root Yuj. - to yoke, unite; integration

Yoga therapy means meeting you exactly as you are and addressing all of you:

  • physical - structural

  • functional - energetic

  • mental & emotional

  • consciousness - Being

Tailored to you. Realistic to your life.

The tools I offer you and practices I teach you are adjusted to your specific needs, abilities, and desired outcomes in the context of your daily life—without sacrificing their potency or authenticity.

Healing is the return journey to wholeness. It is a dynamic process, a way of living. It is the foundation for experiencing harmony, internal and external, as well as accessing your creativity and most fulfilling expression. Yoga offers wisdom that speaks directly to the human condition—our challenges, suffering, and potential. The practices of Yoga and Ayurveda are deeply contextual - there is no practice separate from the practitioner; no tool that functions independent of the one who wields it. In our work together, we’ll enter the practice through various forms (see methodologies below) and allow ourselves to be guided by the unfolding process. In direct response to you, I will share teachings and resources, instruct and empower you to use tools and techniques, and serve as an accountability partner to help you align and integrate yourself. Our work is to remove the obstructions to healing and create conditions for your innate Being to be revealed experientially.

Methodologies

In addition to more than two decades of exploration in theater, dance, various forms of movement meditation, martial arts, functional fitness, nutrition and natural healing techniques, as well as a variety of bodywork systems including Polarity and Craniosacral therapies, I have gone deep in formal study of the following methodologies. These, along with the co-creative forces of Presence and intention, form the container for our work:

When Do I Begin?

When you are ready…

to consider the possibility that health and well-being are innate to you;

When you feel

that even if you might not know how, you sense it is possible to return to your own nature and there find peace, health, and wisdom;

When you are willing…

to take your health and happiness into your own hands and let go of searching for suppressive solutions and external authorities;

When your heartfelt desire…

for to fulfill your purpose has grown stronger than old habits;

When you are determined…

to discover and root out that which is causing your dis-ease and commit to beliefs, thoughts, words, and actions that serve your higher intentions for your life,

Now begins the practice of integration. - Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras 1:1

What you created internally when you were facing reality in the past is your creation. Only you can un-create it. There is no God, no guru, no pill, no treatment or advice that can free you from your pre-programmed conditioned past. Only you can do that.
— Gurudev Shri Amritji
